Tzfat, a small town located in Northern Israel, 900 meters (3200 feet) above sea level in the mountains of the Upper Galilee, it commands magnificent views east to the Golan, North to the Hermon and Lebanon, West to Mt. Meron and the Amud Valley, and South to Tiberias and the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).
Safed is one of the four holy cities in Israel, together with Jerusalem, Hebron and Tiberias. This small city on a mountaintop is a centre of Jewish philosophy and mysticism, and has many 17th century synagogues in the Old City. The old Jewish Quarter consists of narrow cobblestone alleys revealing artists' galleries, medieval synagogues, private homes and small guest houses. In this historical part of Tzfat there is a small candle shop, where you can buy hand-made "Safed candles". Tzfat is also known for its Artists' colony. Many artists live in the former Arab quarter and have their own studios, where they work and exhibit their paintings, inspired by Torah and Jewish mysticism.
For a long time Safed has been a well kept secret, even to most Israelis. However, according to the great mystics of the past, Safed is to play an important role in the final redemption. The Meam Loez, in the name of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, says that the Messiah will come from Safed on his way to Jerusalem. The Ari HaKodesh said that until the Third Temple is built, the Shechinah (God's Manifest Presence) rests above Safed.
There are many Rabbis' graves, forests and nature scenic trails in the vicinity of Tzfat in the Upper Galilee.
1 Day:
From Tel Aviv, drive along coastal road to Caesarea, the ancient Roman Capital and Port, walking tour of the theatre and Archaeological ruins and excavations. Continue to Haifa, scenic view of city and port and Bahai Gardens. Continue via Nahariya to Rosh Hanikra the northernmost point on the Mediterranean shore of Israel, to visit the limestone Grottos on the border with Lebanon Return via Acre to visit the Crusader and Turkish Underground City, crypt. Walk through the Old City and oriental Market, the Arab Mosque and the Old Port. Then drive and overnight to Tzfat.
2 day:
Half-Day Experience - accompanied by an expert guide in Jewish mysticism, we will visit the galleries of artists who create in the spirit of Kabbalah. We will walk through Tzfat's ancient alleys and synagogues, listen to soulful melodies and meet welcoming Kabbalah.
Whole-Day Experience - This will also include a fascinating presentation by a renowned Kabbalist, a forest hike to take in the breathtaking views and a visit to tombs of sages. We will attend a performance of ethnic music in the spirit of the Kabbalah.
